STAR WARS SATURDAY: A DAY OF STAR WARS RELATED GAMES.

Last Saturday, Rick hosted one of our occasional Saturday all day games. The theme this time was Star Wars. We started with an X-Wing Epic battle with a CR-90 corvette escorting a Rebel transport trying to escape from an Empire Raider. Rick took the Empire side for the first two games.
The CR-90 interposes itself between the transport and the raider. A K-Wing makes an attack run.

The transport is attacked by TIE fighters that have evaded the X-Wing escort.

The K-Wing attacks while the Raider and CR-90 pummel each other.

A TIE Punisher drops a Conner Net near the CR-90. The transport begins it's end run, shielded by the CR-90.

A TIE Advanced and TIE attack the Rebel ships.

The Raider avoids proximity mines, whilst coming under attack from the CR-90. The return fire was devastating; crippling the front section of the CR-90.

The transport sneaks past on the unengaged side of the Raider.

Whilst the Raider finishes off the CR-90, the transport makes good it's escape. Just managing to squeeze past and avoiding a collision by a coat of paint!
What a great game! It lasted about 5 hours, including lunch.
A comparison of the Raider models for X-Wing and Armada.
We then had a 400 point game of Armada. The Empire had an Imperial class destroyer as well as an Interdictor and Gladiator. The Rebels had two Epsilon class and two CR-90 corvettes.
The set up for the Armada game.

The Rebel fleet.

The Gladiator draws the bulk of the Rebel fleet into battle.

The Rebel ships are caught in a crossfire between the Gladiator and the Imperial class destroyer.

The Empire fleet mopping up on Turn 6.
We finished the day with two games of Star Wars; Destiny. This is a newish card/dice game which is essentially a duel between characters, but also a resource management game.
One of the two games of Star Wars: Destiny that we also fitted in.
All in all a great, if long, day. We managed to fit in games that we would not be able to get played in an evening.

X - WING: EASY TARGET.

Our last Thursday game of X-Wing saw the Rebels attacking the local Imperial base to try and take some pressure off the ongoing evacuation of the Rebel mine.
A mass attack of fighters was intercepted. Suddenly a YT1300 freighter and two escorting A-Wing fighters break away. They are intercepted by 5 fighters from the Black Squadron.
The freighter and an A-Wing are attacked. The attackers come of worst, both receiving two hits after underestimating the all round fire power of the freighter.
After some manoevering, the fighters begin to take a toll on the freighter.
The fighter escorts come to her rescue and keep the Imperial fighters busy. The TIE interceptor's pilot was having a bad day and kept missing from a good position. May have been down to inspired piloting by the unknown freighter pilot, though.
A combination of fire from the A-Wings and the freighter soon took care of the remaining TIE fighters.
The three Rebel craft make their way to attack the Imperial base. A resounding victory for the Rebels, although the freighter had been reduced to two hits and all ships had lost shields.

Rick thought that this scenario would be an easy Imperial victory. After all these years he should have known that when I am in control, there is no such thing.

This was an enjoyable game. At one point, I was hopeful because I was managing to get real hits on the Rebel ships. Unfortunately, the TIEs do not have staying power. Overall in the three linked scenarios, it was a Rebel victory.

THURSDAY GAME: X-WING: MINING A RICH SEAM.

Getting a bit behind with my posts. Two Thursdays ago, Rick hosted a game of X-Wing.
The game follows on from our previous try at X-Wing http://jjs413-thegen.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/X-Wing. , the scenario being an empire attack on the now located rebel base.

One detatchment of the Empire force, two TIE Bombers, escorted by Three TIE Fighters was intercepted by two X-Wing and one Y-Wing fighter.

Soon a confused general combat ensued. The Y-Wing took hits from Empire vessels, but the shields did their job.

Soon the X-Wings got in among the TIE Fighters. One was destroyed outright with two others heavilly damaged.
They did not get it all their own way, with a rare hit being scored on an X-Wing.

Having dealt with the escort, the X-Wings set about the TIE Bombers.

As well as destroying one of the remaining escorts.

The Y-Wing even got into the act.
The TIE Bombers managed to extract a measure of revenge.

Not least by damaging the Y-Fighter by leaving a mine behind.
The TIE bombers made their escape despite loosing all their escorts and the attentions of the Rebel fighters.

This was an enjoyable game. It took a couple of hours, allowing for photos, and shows that we are getting used to the game engine, which is the same for X-Wing and Star Trek: Attack Wing.

The TIE vessels have no shields but have greater agility than the Rebels. They also have the roll ability (a '1' ruler move left or right as an action after movement). The Rebel fighters as well as having shields had droid enhancements that allowed them to remove damage.

Perhaps my best tactic would be to concentrate all the Empire fighters on one Rebel fighter at a time. Worth a try next time.

THURSDAY GAME: X-WING.

This Thursday's game was our first try out using the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game. The rules engine is exactly the same as Star Trek Attack: Wing, with differences to take account of the different scale of the combatants.

The scenario that Rick devised involved a clash between two X-Wing fighters and three TIE fighters. The TIE fighters are returning from supporting a successful attack on a rebel base that was hidden in an asteroid field.

The two sides spot each other and set intercept courses.

The two X-Wings separate. One attacks the three TIE fighters, giving and receiving hits.

A slick manouvere puts one of the TIE fighters in a position to damage one X-Wing. The other X-Wing is closing to even the numbers.

The fight swings in the Rebels' favour. Two TIE fighters take damage.

The next sweep sees one TIE destroyed.

The remaining fighters jockeyed for favourable firing positions. Both sides caused damage, but the Rebels effectively won by destroying a second TIE fighter. The third was damaged and bugged out. One X-Wing had taken two hits.

This was a balanced game. The TIE fighters did not have shields and relied on their superior agility (3 defence dice). The X-Wings had two shields and agility of 2.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable game. Our familiarity with the system meant more time to try to second guess each other and it also showed how the system coped with more than one vessel a side. This will be useful for planning multi vessel games for Attack Wing.
